The language of Black English is the language of Black Americans and used in every black community. In the article, Barbara Mellix talks of how she grew up speaking black English and standard English, which she also calls proper English. She spoke black English the language taught to black children by their parents. They also taught her she state ,when, where, and how to use not only black English but what she calls standard or proper English. This is done by example and by correcting her language. She explores both the black and standard English and how we use each in daily life. She believes and I agree that we speak a different English when at home, work or school.

The problem of using standard English begins when she begins to write business letters at work.
The correct usage of black English and Standard English is a problem she addresses when she begins college and enrolls in a basic writing course at the University of Pittsburgh. At this point she begins to disconnect from black English and use only standard English. In her paper she writes examples of black English only to educate other and that standard English is the proper language to use in the classroom.

Will black English remain a part of black American life or be replaced by standard English? This I believe is a question that will be answered by black Americans in the future.
